Tell Me I’m an Angel

The Universe:
{Edward shakes his head, lights a cigarette as he walks down the hall, smiles when he sees Taryn} There you are.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles, quietly} I’m sorry.. I was looking at some of the stuff Gabe gave us and I lost track of time.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} It’s fine. I’m sure there was a lot. He’s pretty thorough. {looks at her} Are you all right? I’ve been a little worried about you.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn softly} I’m fine.. {looks down} Why have you been worried?

The Universe:
{Edward watches her, quietly} Because I heard what happened earlier. And then some.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn raises her eyes, softly} With Gabe? I talked to him and apologized and we’re okay.. I didn’t mean to be ugly… I just.. when he said that they could be replaced…{shakes her head} It upset me.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} I know. I don’t think he meant it quite like that. And people who have never had an animal that meant to them what your horses meant to you have a harder time understanding. But, I think I can get them for you.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn looks at him} You can? {quietly} I told Gabe I didn’t expect to get them back.. and he found pictures of me with them and just them that I didn’t even know existed. {looks down} I don’t want to cause any problems.
The Universe:
{Edward smiles} How many are we talking about?
The Cosmos:
{Taryn quietly} I had eight.. but I’m only really concerned about two of them.. the others are used to other people. Achilles.. Saige’s horse won’t let anyone near him but me. And Apollo he’s mine. I’ve had him forever.. Well since he was born anyway.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} Then your job tomorrow is to go to the stables and make sure there’s room for them. I’ll talk to Genja when I get up tomorrow night. I can’t have them here tomorrow or even the next day, but hopefully by the end of the week. Next week at the latest.
The Universe:
{Edward looks at her} I’ll also need to know where they are and who has them.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn shakes her head} I don’t know.. if they didn’t sell with the ranch.. there’s no telling where they are.. {smiles} Stables? I’m allowed to go there?
The Universe:
{Edward nods} Of course. If they were sold with the ranch, there will be a paper trail that Gabe can follow. Hell, he’s probably already got that information. If they weren’t… I’ll find them. I’ll also need pictures of them.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn beams at him and throws her arms around his neck} Thank you, Edward. {hugs him tightly}
The Universe:
{Edward hugs her back, smiles} If Genja asks, you’re undergoing “treatment” for “extreme depression”. {pulls back and looks at her} I’m going to tell him the horses are a necessary part of your treatment.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn searches his eyes, softly} I don’t want you to get in trouble.
The Universe:
{Edward smiles} Trouble? I don’t get in trouble. Much. It will also be helpful if, if you do see him, you burst into tears and run from the room. He’ll give his approval just so he doesn’t have to deal with “emotional outbursts”.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn nods} All right.. {quietly} What else did you hear about?
The Universe:
{Edward shrugs} I just heard.. Saige defending you.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn blinks} Wow.. Are you sure?
The Universe:
{Edward nods} Totally. And she needed very little provocation. She said something about how that wasn’t like you and some other things.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} I don’t think she’s ever done that before.
The Universe:
{Edward smiles} Well, she did it today. {looks at her for a second} Are you sure you’re all right?
The Cosmos:
{Taryn looks at him, nods} I think so.. {quietly} Are you all right?
The Universe:
{Edward smiles} I am if you are.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn shakes her head} That’s not an answer Edward. And it’s not one you’d accept if I said it.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} But it’s true. The only thing bothering me tonight was worrying about you. {looks at her} I heard you crying.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn looks at him} I’m sorry.. That was because I felt bad about Gabe and then I saw all the stuff.. he even unearthed pictures of my parents.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} Do you need to talk?
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} I’d like that. {looks at him, blurts} Why haven’t we….
The Universe:
{Edward smiles} *That* sounds like a discussion we should have somewhere a bit more private than standing in the middle of the hall.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn nods} Okay.. {shakes her head} I’m sorry..
The Universe:
{Edward smiles again} Oh, that’s more for your privacy than mine. {takes her hand and starts for the tower} I’m not a believer in rushing things. I mean, honestly, why should *vampires* be in a rush, you know? At least when it’s not an immediate life or death situation.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn nods} I can understand that. {smiles} I just get quizzed at breakfast by Saige. I saw Lucien leaving with Ciara.
The Universe:
{Edward laughs} *They* have decided they need to spend the night in the city if they’re going to cross that bridge. {smiles at her} No one will leave them alone long enough and Lucien’s all but chomping at the bit, now.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} Ciara was a little edgy.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} I’m sure she was. {looks at her} Also.. it being your first time.. I want to *take* our time.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} I appreciate that. I really do. {looks at him} Have you been in my head?
The Universe:
{Edward shakes his head} No. I also want to make sure you know that I didn’t choose you because of the virgin bit specifically and that.. you know.. it’s not a requirement. {looks at her} Why did you ask if I’ve been in your head?
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} I was just curious. I’ve been dreaming about you..
The Universe:
{Edward smiles} Good dreams?
The Cosmos:
{Taryn nods, still smiling} Yes. Very good dreams. {blushes}
The Universe:
{Edward nods, still smiling} Vampires don’t have dreams like humans do because we don’t actually *sleep*. But we do have.. processes similar to dreams. {looks over at her} I’ve been thinking about you a lot, too. Another reason we’ve waited is because I didn’t want your first time to be with a total stranger. I wanted us to be able to get to know each other a little first. Give you a chance to be sure this was what you wanted.

The Cosmos:
{Taryn looks at him} But how do you feel about it, Edward.. It’s not *just* me. You are part of this too.
The Universe:
{Edward looks at her, smiles} I’m very much looking forward to it, actually. {grins because he can’t help it}
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} Do you think you know me well enough?
The Universe:
{Edward shrugs} You can know someone for years and never really know them. I think I know enough, though, yes.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles almost shyly} What do you know?
The Universe:
{Edward looks at her, smiles} I know you’re sweet and sensitive. I know you have a big heart which means you have a lot of compassion. I know you seem rather practical and sensible. I know you’re disciplined. And I know anger and expressing it isn’t something you feel and do often.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn quietly} Wow.
The Universe:
{Edward smiles} What?
The Cosmos:
{Taryn looks up at him} I didn’t expect all that.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} Most people don’t. Being able to hear like I can doesn’t do you much good if you don’t know how to listen. And listening sometimes involves much more than your ears.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn nods in agreement} It does. {very softly} I also feel guilty when I do get angry.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} People who feel guilty when they get angry usually feel like their anger wasn’t justified. People who don’t get angry often and or don’t express anger often tend to feel that way. They also tend to feel and express anger less *because* they feel that way.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} When I get angry it’s usually justified… it’s just that my reaction is usually not.
The Universe:
{Edward looks at her} Why do you think that is?
The Cosmos:
{Taryn shakes her head} Because usually when I do get angry it’s at Saige for something she’s done.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} So, what about your reactions isn’t justifiable?
The Cosmos:
{Taryn looks down} They’re usually more….outbursty.
The Universe:
{Edward smiles} Did I mention passionate?
The Cosmos:
{Taryn shakes her head} No.. but that doesn’t really describe me.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} You don’t think so? So.. “outbursty” is more appropriate?
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} I’m not even sure that’s a word.. but it fit. It’s like I go from tame pony to wild mustang in seconds.
The Universe:
{Edward smiles} Oh, trust me. It’s definitely not a word. {looks at her} I should tell you that I’m an exceptional listener and a pretty good therapist. But I’m not a very good talker.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn looks at him} We’ll have to do something about *that*.
The Universe:
{Edward nds} Probably.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} No probably about it.. we will. Because If you don’t talk then I won’t and we’ll end up in silence. {looks down softly} And I like talking with you.
The Universe:
{Edward looks at her, smiles} You’ll talk. I’m very good at getting people to talk.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} Me too.
The Universe:
{Edward smiles, stops and opens the tower door for her}
The Cosmos:
{Taryn walks through the door, turns to look at him} I feel like we were missing each other tonight.
The Universe:
{Edward follows her in, closes the door, looks at her} What do you mean?
The Cosmos:
{Taryn shrugs}} Just I wasn’t here when you woke up and I should have been.
The Universe:
{Edward smiles} Why should you be?
The Cosmos:
{Taryn looks at him} Because.. what if you’re hungry or need someone to talk to?
The Universe:
{Edward smiles again, walks into the room} When you first wake up, what’s the first thing you want or need?
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} To go to the bathroom.
The Universe:
{Edward laughs, nods} All right. So, what’s the second?
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} My tea.
The Universe:
{Edward nods, turns and looks back at her} So.. not food or conversation?
The Cosmos:
{Taryn shrugs} Tea usually comes with conversation… at least it used to. Saige would usually be on her way in as I was heading out to take care of the horses. She’d tell me about her night.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} And what would you tell her about?
The Cosmos:
{Taryn shakes her head} Usually.. the day to day stuff of running a ranch. Keeping her filled in on the happenings considering she owned half too. What I was going to be doing that day.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} And how long after you wake up does it take you to before you’re able to engage in such a discussion?
The Cosmos:
{Taryn grins} I can do it as soon as I roll out of bed.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn looks at him} And I have.
The Universe:
{Edward smiles} So you’re a morning person?
The Cosmos:
{Taryn nods} And a night person.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} Some of the vampires can do that, too. Engage in a lively, active discussion the second they open their eyes. They’re the ones that tend to be very focused.

The Cosmos:
{Taryn looks at him} But not you?
The Universe:
{Edward shakes his head} Focus is something I actually have to work at. I tend to be a bit scattered. Particularly when I’m under the influence of the sun.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn nods} So you don’t want me to be here when you wake up?
The Universe:
{Edward smiles} I didn’t mean that. We were talking about why *you* think you should be here when I wake up. I’m just letting you know why it isn’t necessary.
The Universe:
{Edward shrugs} I guess I could have simplified it.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} It’s okay. You got the point across.
The Universe:
{Edward smiles} Though, I probably should have just said I’m not a morning person without all the unnecessary explanation.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn shakes her head} No.. I like that you did it that way. {smiles} It makes me think.
The Universe:
{Edward smiles again} Thinking is always a good thing.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn nods} It is. It’s part of why I like horses so much too… {looks at him} Can we get a puppy?
The Universe:
{Edward laughs, nods} Yes.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn gives him a brilliant smiles} Thank you.
The Universe:
{Edward smiles} And she’s an animal lover. Not just horses.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn nods and smiles sheepishly} I am.. I used to bring home strays. Kittens, puppies, dogs, {grins} I once brought home an Iguana.
The Universe:
{Edward laughs} Was it a stray or did someone give it to you?
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} His name was…{rolls her eyes} Iggy, the pet store in my town was closing and Iggy was the last pet left.. they were going to free him into the forest by my house. I lost it.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn looks at Edward} He was just a little thing and had been in a cage all his life. He’d’ve starved then frozen
The Universe:
{Edward smiles} So you took him home.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn nods} I did.. Saige lost her shit.. and mom and dad made me give him to one of the guys I knew.
The Universe:
{Edward smiles again} So Saige doesn’t like reptiles? {takes a seat on the couch}
The Cosmos:
{Taryn walks over and sits on the coffee table facing him, shakes her head} Not at all. A frog got in her house and I heard her screaming all the way across the pasture.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn frowns} Which isn’t a reptile but an amphibian.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} Still. They do bear a striking resemblance to each other. In so far as being.. green. I guess. {laughs}
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} She didn’t know the difference and I had to capture the thing and set it free.. It was a tiny green tree frog and he’d attached himself to her sliding glass door.
The Universe:
{Edward smiles} So, we’ll save that for ammunition.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn laughs} Evil.
The Universe:
{Edward smiles more broadly} Me? Never.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} What about you do you like animals?
The Universe:
{Edward laughs} I like mammals. {smiles} I’m not really a fan of reptiles and amphibians.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} I’ll make a deal with you. I’ll keep the non furry animals out if you keep the spiders away.
The Universe:
{Edward smiles again, nods} Deal.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn watches him} What’s your favorite movie?
The Universe:
{Edward thinks for a second} I think.. the Wizard of Oz.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn blinks} Why?
The Universe:
{Edward smiles at her reaction, shrugs} Well, for one there’s a Wizard. I kind of relate to that character. And second, there’s flying monkeys. And three, a house falls on someone. And lastly, there’s the dream aspect.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} I can see it. I would have thought Inception though. Because of the dream stuff.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} Inception was an amazing movie, but.. you know. It didn’t have flying monkeys.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn laughs} It did not. It also didn’t have the pretty girl and the wicked witch.
The Universe:
{Edward nods again} Or a wizard.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn nods} Or a wizard. So if you’re a wizard does that make me the sorcerer’s apprentice?
The Universe:
{Edward looks at her, smiles} I could see that.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} You can?
The Universe:
{Edward nods} I could see you as an herbalist, at least.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn looks at him} I used to have an herb and vegetable garden. I kind of let the herbs take over.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} I was thinking about your vegan diet, actually. It doesn’t seem a far jump from there to holistic medicines and remedies.
The Universe:
{Edward frowns} Well.. maybe not vegan so much as.. healthy, anyway.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn shakes her head} It’s not. {smiles} It’s vegan *most* of the time.. but every now and then you just gotta have a cheeseburger with the works. And Chocolate.
The Universe:
{Edward smiles} So, while the diet is mostly vegan, the principle isn’t so much about animals so much as the health benefits.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn nods} Something like that. It’s a very boring story.
The Universe:
{Edward looks at her, smiles again} So, bore me.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn nods} All right.. but only if you tell me a story about you too.
The Universe:
{Edward frowns} I’m not sure I have any that you’d really want to hear.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} I’m sure you do. Saige had dragged me to a party.. *another* one. I got totally wasted. She dragged me because my boyfriend had just dumped me, and didn’t think I should be sitting home alone. So anyway…I ended up so drunk I could barely move. I woke up the next morning with my boyfriend’s best friend. We looked at each other and vowed *never* to talk about it. Ever.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn looks at him} And *that* is the best kept secret of my town. No I didn’t sleep with him. But in my little town if *any*one found out I was there all night.. {shakes her head}
The Universe:
{Edward smiles} One of you top ten most embarrassing moments?
The Cosmos:
{Taryn nods} Especially because he was such a man whore.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} Between the party food and the hangover and that.. I swore off alcohol, drugs and greasy food.
The Universe:
{Edward smiles again} The hangover must have been hell.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn nods} Torture and I still had to work. I went home and found my Grandma’s recipe book and made her tonic. I felt like hell for the rest of the day.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} Hangovers are definitely one thing I don’t miss.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn leans back and pulls her knees up wrapping her arms around them, after kicking off her boots} But if I get drunk or stoned and you drink from me you’ll feel it?
The Universe:
{Edward smiles} Yes.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn quietly} If you want to.. just let me know.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} I don’t, generally. If you want to, just let me know ahead of time that you’re planning to.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} I don’t anymore. I haven’t since that party.
The Universe:
{Edward smiles} I tend not to because it plays havoc with my senses and I end up dream walking involuntarily.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn blinks} Oh.. that must be jarring. Finding yourself in someone else’s dreamscape.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} Totally. And people have some *fucked* up dreams. And I can’t really control anything when I’m in that state.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn nods} So none of that for you.
The Universe:
{Edward smiles} I’d rather not.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} Me either.
The Universe:
{Edward smiles again} I’m glad we’re on the same page with that. It will make things easier for both of us. As I was looking for you, I heard David and Aubrey went on a bit of a bender.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn nods} She left to get more while Gabe was talking to us. She got lost and when she came back they started *again*. I heard they broke the piano bench.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} And he’s no longer in Chloe’s herd. Apparently, she wasn’t very happy with the situation and Heather stepped in.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn shakes her head} He keeps drinking like that and he’s going to end up with alcohol poisoning or worse.
The Universe:
{Edward looks at her} It probably wouldn’t be the first time. Apparently, this isn’t a new… development.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn looks at him} Do you think he’s going to be all right?
The Universe:
{Edward shrugs} I don’t know. They’ll probably end up bringing him to me at some point.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn quietly} It’s my experience that people like that are either afraid of something or they’re self-medicating.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} The consensus is that he’s self-medicating. And from what Gabriel said about his background, I’m inclined to agree. I also suspect abandonment issues.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn quietly} And Chloe letting him go didn’t do much to help that?
The Universe:
{Edward looks at her} He was probably too drunk at the time to realize that’s what happened, but… he’ll realize it in the morning.
The Universe:
{Edward shakes his head} The fact is, Chloe simply isn’t equipped to handle that. For me, the primary issue, which will probably add to his pre-existing trust issues, is that when she chose him, they did touch upon his inclination to drink and smoke and her response to him then, and you might remember this because we were in the dungeon at the time, I believe, was that it would be fine because she was all about sowing some wild oats.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn nods} I do remember that. What I *don’t* understand is with someone like *you* here why didn’t they let you choose which of us went where?

The Universe:
{Edward looks at her} Oh, you haven’t figured that out yet? They only come to me to *fix* things and people. Not to prevent them from breaking.. And as you saw during the issue with Simone, they aren’t as inclined to listen to me until they *can’t* fix something themselves and they don’t usually realize that until entirely too much damage has been done.

The Cosmos:
{Taryn frowns and shakes her head} So go to them.
The Universe:
{Edward sighs} Except the part I just mentioned where they don’t *listen*. Everyone always has a better solution. Until they don’t.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn quietly} They might listen to *me*.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} Maybe. But I wouldn’t hold my breath. No. Damien would listen and they’d listen to *him*. That much, at least, is certain.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn nods} So let me ask you something…What do you do when you see a problem?
The Universe:
{Edward looks at her} It depends on the problem. If the problem is a person, I generally try to help them. If the problem is a situation, such as with Simone, I tell them what I think about it and *why* I see it as a problem.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn nods} So let’s talk to Damien.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} About David?
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} Yes.. and about them waiting until they don’t have a better solution. Because I have a feeling most of the problems that happen could be avoided if you’d been part of the solution in the first place.
The Universe:
{Edward looks at her} The thing of it is, though, that… you can’t help people that don’t want it and you can’t force people to listen to you. Especially around here. The vampires, a good number of them, really don’t give a shit about the psychological stability of the humans. They won’t abide someone *else* telling them who they should and shouldn’t take home with them and they especially don’t want to hear about “feelings”.
The Universe:
{Edward shakes his head} Heather won’t give David to me to help until *after* she’s done everything she knows better than me will work. And it is only if nothing does that she will show up here and drop him on our doorstep.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn looks at him} But that won’t help *him*. And shouldn’t our stability count for something? I mean if we’re unstable stuff like what happened with Simone is going to happen more and more as people start drifting.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} And I tend to agree with you. But vampires aren’t human, Taryn. They believe in an eye for an eye and survival of the fittest. And I can’t help David no matter what *anyone* does unless *he* thinks he has a problem and *wants* me to help him with it.
The Universe:
{Edward looks at her} There was a girl once. She was very shy and timid. And they were actually worried that she was broken. So they called me to help her. It took me about five seconds to realize she wasn’t broken at all.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn nods} All right. I just think it’s retarded that they have a resource like you and don’t use it. {smiles} What’d you do?
The Universe:
{Edward leans forward and clasps his hands between his knees, looks at her} I told them she wasn’t broken and to just leave her alone.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn looks at him, watching} Did they?
The Universe:
{Edward nods} Except for Lucien, but.. that was a completely different thing that was between them. But she did deal with him much better than they ever expected. Ultimately, she proved I was right.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn lays her hand on his arm} But?
The Universe:
{Edward looks at her through his bangs} There is no but. I was right, she wasn’t broken and she came out of her shell rather nicely once she got comfortable.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn quietly} Edward, when you want to avoid talking about something or don’t want to give a straight answer… you look at people like that.
The Universe:
{Edward shakes his head} I’m giving you the straightest answer I can for what you’re asking.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn looks at him} There’s more there though isn’t there?
The Universe:
{Edward nods} The moral to the story is that just because someone isn’t broken doesn’t mean they aren’t dangerous. And just because someone has good intentions doesn’t mean they won’t lead you straight into hell. {looks at her again} See… sometimes it’s us who are broken and it takes someone who isn’t to show us just how broken we are.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn looks at him} Were you broken?
The Universe:
{Edward nods} I was broken when I met her. I was utterly destroyed when she left me.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn quietly} And now?
The Universe:
{Edward shrugs} I’m better now than I was then. A bit better, actually.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn looks at him} How’d you get better?
The Universe:
{Edward smiles} Someone finally listened to me.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn tilts her head, shifts so she’s slightly behind him and rubbing his shoulders}
The Cosmos:
{Taryn softly} Who?
The Universe:
{Edward looks at her} Someone who I’d helped. Someone who I’d come to be close to. A very good friend, even though we weren’t always.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn pushes his shirt up and out of the way} What happened to her?

The Universe:
{Edward smiles} What makes you think it was a woman?
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} Your lack of use of a pronoun.
The Universe:
{Edward nods, still smiling} She moved on. She was a bit of a nomad.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn nods} Do you miss her?
The Universe:
{Edward looks at her} I miss that we never really got the chance to be friends for more than a short time before she left. Because while we’d known each other a while, things weren’t always good between us.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn massages his shoulders, quietly} So you won’t let that happen again.
The Universe:
{Edward smiles} I could say that but it wouldn’t necessarily be true. Some things can’t be controlled and that was one of them. You know, you can’t always predict who you’ll fall in love with or who your true friends will turn out to be.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn nods} Which is why you should… {sighs} yeah.. that’s even to corny for me.
The Universe:
{Edward smiles again} Why I should what?
The Cosmos:
{Taryn softly} Cherish every person that comes into your life. {shrugs} It might be that person that turns out to be your best friend or the one.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} You’re right. {smiles} That is really corny.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn looks down} I know. {shrugs} but not any less true.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} Which is why I’m not denying it.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn looks at him} Don’t ever let me do that again.
The Universe:
{Edward looks at her, smiles} Oh, I’ll totally let you do that again. Just not in mixed company.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} *Why?*
The Universe:
{Edward shrugs} Because you will? Because you’ll do it without worrying about the way it makes you look. There’s not a lot of respect around here for emotion or sentiment.
The Universe:
{Edward looks at her} That’s mostly why they don’t listen to me. They think I’m too “emotional”.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn moves out from behind him} I don’t think so. I think you’re amazing and intuitive and smart and funny and {blinks, as she clamps her mouth shut}
The Universe:
{Edward sits back, looks at her, smiles} Thank you for not telling me how pretty I am.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn shakes her head, smiles} I’ll leave that for the girls that don’t know you.
The Universe:
{Edward nods, smiles again} The girls who never will.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn looks at him} You don’t know that.
The Universe:
{Edward looks at her} For the most part, I do.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn quietly} How?
The Universe:
{Edward smiles} Because *mostly* all people are the same and I’m too pretty for them to take seriously. Because they’re so busy talking that they usually don’t listen. Because it’s been my experience that the average person can’t see past the surface. See.. I’m not a good talker, because the more people don’t listen to you, the less you find yourself willing to say. The thing about therapy, about treating people is they are *very* interested in what you have to say about them. And you’re actually not *supposed* to talk to them about yourself on a personal level.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} I *want* to hear about you. I want to learn about who you are and who you were.
The Universe:
{Edward nods} So what do *you* know so far?
The Cosmos:
{Taryn smiles} You are sensitive, but not as soft skinned as everyone thinks. You’ve an incredible mind and a great sense of humor. When you make an appearance it’s to cause a stir. You like to talk when it’s not about you, and your confidence while it’s not without cracks is stronger than most. You have a kind and generous heart and I would imagine you’d do anything for the person you loved. Including letting her go if you thought that would make her happy. {looks into his eyes} You want to be seen..but feel that people either see through you or can’t get past the pretty to the real you.
The Universe:
{Edward smiles} It would seem you can be rather intuitive, too. {reaches over and takes her hand, quietly} So, do you think *you* know enough?
The Cosmos:
{Taryn quietly} Yes. {looks at him as she squeezes his hand, whispers} I see you Edward.
The Universe:
{Edward looks at her for a second, leans over and kisses her lightly, slipping his free hand into her hair}
The Cosmos:
{Taryn responds melting into his kiss, her hand tightens on his, her other hand moves to his cheek}
The Universe:
{Edward turns on the couch so he’s facing her, his leg bent between them and his other foot on the floor, deepens the kiss with a deliberate slowness}
The Cosmos:
{Taryn shivers, and leans into the kiss, the hand on his cheek moves to his chest when he turns, and tightens on the fabric of his shirt, she tentatively deepens the kiss even further mimicking him as she does}
The Universe:
{Edward moves his hands to her hips and pulls her closer so he can wrap his arms around her}
The Cosmos:
{Taryn’s arms move around his neck when he pulls her to him, her body relaxes against his, and her breathing quickens}
The Universe:
{Edward breaks the kiss after a minute or two, looks at her, quietly} We should go to the bedroom.
The Cosmos:
{Taryn’s eyes focus on his face, very softly} All right.
The Universe:
{Edward smiles, takes her hand and stands pulling her with him and toward the bedroom}
