Love Can Endure – Back in Solitude

Boys:
<back at the property, Samuel parks the camper at the edge of the lake and unhooks it from the truck>
Girls:
<Bree helps where she can> We should pick up a generator.
Boys:
<Samuel nods, pulling out his phone> That’s what I was thinkin’, too. <texts David to come over and bring a generator if they’ve got one>
Girls:
<Bree smiles> Great minds and all that.
Boys:
<Samuel smiles> Maybe we don’t have to practice that mind readin’ thing as much as we thought.
Girls:
<Bree smiles> I’m thinkin’ we don’t. <looks at him> I’ll get a hose.

Boys:
<Samuel nods> All right.
Girls:
<Bree frowns> I’m not sure we have one that long.
Boys:
<Samuel looks at Bree> Check the barn site. We’ll go out a little later and pick up another one.
Girls:
<Bree nods> All right. <smiles> I’m actually excited about this.
Boys:
<Samuel smiles> Believe it or not, so am I.
Girls:
<Bree smiles> I believe it.
Boys:
<Samuel nods> Go get that hose, baby girl. And I gotta tell ya.. I’m lookin’ forward to a quiet night out here with just the two of us.
Girls:
<Bree smiles> me too.. I’ll be back in a few. <Heads toward the barn site and calls Genja on her way>
Boys:
<Samuel pulls the truck around so it’s parked in front of the camper>
Boys:
<Genja answers> Hello?
Girls:
<Bree quietly as she’s walking> Hey Genja, it’s Bree.
Boys:
<Genja arches a brow> What’s wrong?
Girls:
<Bree shakes her head and tells him what went down> And so we did a Dna test at the house and she told the truth Bill is his dad. But I had something…sensitive to ask.
Boys:
<Genja shakes his head> That woman sounds like a blight on the face of humanity.
Girls:
<Bree nods> Totally.. which leads me to my question.
Boys:
<Genja smiles> What’s your vision of an ideal world?
Girls:
<Bree smiles> Something like that.
Boys:
<Genja shakes his head> No. I’m asking *you*.
Girls:
<Bree quietly> One in which I help remove the blights.
Boys:
<Genja smiles> I’ll call you when I have a cure. Probably around the end of the week.
Girls:
<Bree nods> Genja.. thank you.
Girls:
<Bree smiles> I should also tell you we’re back together.
Boys:
<Genja nods> I haven’t done anything. Yet. <smiles again> *That* doesn’t surprise me.
Girls:
<Bree smiles> It doesn’t?
Boys:
<Genja shakes his head> *Nothing* surprises me. That just surprises me less than everything else. You’re a caretaker, Bree. And Samuel definitely needs someone like that in his life.
Girls:
<Bree shakes her head> I never thought I’d hear *that* one. Have you talked to Silver?
Boys:
<Genja smiles> Not recently, no. Haven’t you ever wondered how you manage to get through to him when other women can’t?
Girls:
<Bree nods> I thought it was because he could tell me anything and I never flinched.
Boys:
<Genja nods> There’s that, too. But there’s also the fact that you seem to understand people like him in a way most people can’t. And because you’re relatively fearless when dealing with them.
Girls:
<Bree smiles> Thank you. <heads over and grabs the hose, heads back connecting it to a spigot she saw along the way> We’ve both changed, Genja. We were visiting his incubator and it got all pissy with him and I told him we were leaving *Now*. He got up and headed for the door. I was completely knocked off balance by that.
Boys:
<Genja smiles> Bree, Samuel trusts you. And I don’t mean he trusts you not to fuck around on him and shit like that. I mean he trusts you with less tangible things. He trusts you not to judge. He trusts you to be just fucked up enough to understand his own sometimes twisted logic and morality. You’re not quite two of a kind, but you’re close. You’re softer than he is but he can accept that from you because you’re a woman so you’re allowed. The simple fact is, you do for him what no other woman can. And that’s fulfill whatever needs it is you fulfill. You’re his opposite in the ways that he needs you to be. Optimistic when he can’t be, there with answers when he can’t find them. The fact that he can tell you anything and you won’t flinch makes him feel like things
Boys:
aren’t as bad as they seem. It puts them into perspective. A perspective that resonates more closely to his own. There’s not a person up there other than Heather right now that can do that for him because those people are so goddamn sheltered.
Boys:
<Genja shrugs> Whatever he’s seen or done, you’ve seen just as bad if not worse. And you understand doing what you have to to survive.
Boys:
<Genja takes a drag of his cigarette> Those people haven’t had to survive in any real sense.
Girls:
<Bree nods> We were talking about that too. How they’re all shiny and sparkly. I do understand it and I’m going to make sure he survives this *all* of it.
Boys:
<Genja nods> And he would survive with or without you. You just make it a hell of a lot easier for him to do it. And you give him a reason to do it beyond survival for the sake of survival.
Girls:
<Bree stops walking> And If Dee shows up here.. <softly> She’s gonna be looking skyward from the bottom of a lake somewhere.
Boys:
<Genja nods> And if you need help achieving that ideal vision, you have my number. <smiles> That’s one I’d particularly enjoy seeing to fruition.
Girls:
<Bree nods> I’ll keep that in mind.. But after Silver gives her Samuel’s message… I have no doubt she’ll be down her in a matter of a few days.
Boys:
<Genja takes a drag, nods> Look, Bree.. he can read most people pretty well, but women he’s a little bit arrogant about. Or he just doesn’t give them enough credit. He refuses to believe a woman can be just as dangerous to him, if not more, than a man with a gun.
Girls:
<Bree looks at the ground> I know.. I know Saige had him tied for a while..
Boys:
<Genja shakes his head> He’s not with her, he’s with you. And if he wanted to be with her as much as he seems to want to be with you, he wouldn’t let the fact she had a man stand in his way. Especially considering how badly she seems to want *him*.
Girls:
<Bree nods> He is with me and I’m going to keep it that way. I need him just as much as he needs me.
Boys:
<Genja nods> I wouldn’t worry about Saige having him tied. Just make sure she knows she’s out of the running, if she doesn’t already. Just don’t be obvious about it or she’ll take it as a challenge and you’ll have another Dee on your hands.
Girls:
<Bree smiles> She knows. Hell, when Samuel showed up at the cages this morning she was filing her nails. He put her in the cage and proceeded to beat the hell out of her with the balls, then called training early so we could leave.
Boys:
<Genja smiles> So maybe he wants her to know, too.
Girls:
<Bree smiles> That’s what I was thinkin’. Listen, I don’t want him involved in my causes.
Boys:
<Genja nods> Don’t worry about it. I’ll call you at the end of the week.
Girls:
<Bree nods> Okay. And Jamie and Bill are probably gonna be movin’ next door.
Boys:
<Genja smiles> Lucky you.
Girls:
<Bree smiles> Yeah.. I know.. but I figure Tommy’ll distract him.
Boys:
<Genja nods> Probably.
Girls:
<Bree heads back toward where the camper is> It’s gonna work this time for us.
Boys:
<Genja smiles> Blah, blah, blah. I’ll talk to you later. <hangs up>
